Generally, most ventilation grilles have vertical and/or horizontal blades which are affixed onto a rigid frame. A variety of different grille types can often be used in both residential and commercial buildings, for example wall, ceiling, exposed duct, or floor installations.

Grilles with adjustable blades allow the user to manually set the angle of its vertical and/or horizontal blades. Adjustable grilles come in single deflection, which allow the regulation of air flow in vertical or horizontal direction, or double deflection which comprise of both vertical and horizontal movable blades.

On the other hand, grilles with fixed non-moveable blades can have blades either straight or at an angle.

Grilles with non-moveable bars along the length of the grille are called linear bar grilles.

Adjustable grilles are often the preferred solution for high wall air outlets. For ceiling installations, grilles with curved blades, that project air flow parallel to the ceiling, are usually the preferred choice for ceiling heights lower than 3m.

For spaces with higher ceilings, vertical air flow is more likely to be the preferred choice. In floor applications, linear bar grilles are considered a popular choice and are used to project the conditioned air along walls.

When deciding on appropriate floor grilles, it is important to take into consideration load scale and frequency that the grilles are expected to meet. Preferably, floor grilles should be installed in low foot traffic areas.

Type of ventilation grilles

Air ventilation grilles are devices that allow the passage of air between different spaces, such as rooms, ducts, or walls. They are usually made of metal, plastic, or wood, and have slits or louvers that can be adjusted to control the airflow. Air ventilation grilles are important for maintaining indoor air quality, temperature, and humidity levels. They can also reduce noise and prevent the spread of fire and smoke.

Fixed Bar Linear Grilles A fixed bar linear grille is a type of air vent consisting of parallel metal bars that are fixed in place and aligned horizontally or vertically, commonly used in HVAC systems to provide ventilation and airflow control. They can be installed in walls, ceilings, floors, or ducts, depending on the application and design. Fixed bar linear grilles have several advantages over other types of grilles, such as:

  • Durablity and resistant to corrosion, dust, and moisture.
  • Easy to clean and maintain, as they do not have moving parts or filters.

  • Can be customized to fit different sizes, shapes and colors, as well as to match the aesthetic of the space.

  • Uniform and consistent air distribution, as they do not create turbulence or noise.

  • Slot Flow Bar Grilles
A slot flow bar grille consists of a series of parallel slots or bars that create a uniform and adjustable airflow pattern. Slot flow bar grilles are typically used in applications where precise control of the air direction and velocity is required, such as in laboratories, clean rooms, or data centers. Slot flow bar grilles can be mounted on the ceiling, wall, or floor, and can be integrated with plenums, dampers, or diffusers to optimize the performance and efficiency of the air distribution system.
  • Linear Slot Diffuser
A linear slot diffuser can provide a uniform and adjustable supply of air in a space. It consists of a long, narrow slot with multiple air outlets that can be individually controlled by dampers. Linear slot diffusers are typically installed along the perimeter of a room, near the ceiling or floor, to create a horizontal air pattern that can cover a large area. Linear slot diffusers are suitable for applications that require high air change rates, low noise levels, and good thermal comfort.
